The Story Behind the Space
“I wanted to create a solution to the problem that I had finding affordable, flexible meeting space in Baton Rouge. In this post-pandemic world, businesses are doing new things and working together in new ways. We crave collaboration and connection. The Brewery was designed to meet a need for small teams a place to break out of their everyday work environment and to be inspired.”
Our concept was born out of a gap we discovered in the pre- and post-pandemic climate. Many small businesses, organizations and nonprofits have evolved to allow some form of remote work. Many even forgoing a permanent brick and mortar altogether. But without a home to call your own, where do these companies meet with clients, brainstorm internally or cultivate creativity? We also recognized that many large companies, who maintained an in-office work model, simply need an inspiring space to go off-site for strategy and brainstorming sessions, team building and leadership development.
While there are options locally to host large groups or to rent monthly desk or office space, we found a lack of opportunities for small groups that need an occasional, affordable meeting space. The Brewery creates a flexible, sophisticated plug-and-play solution for small groups to gather, collaborate, build relationships and create new ideas to foster growth in our community.
The Brewery is the brainchild of Marie Powell, a small business owner, entrepreneur and innovative leader. With over twenty years of creative and strategic marketing experience, Marie has led the development of integrated branding and advertising campaigns for local, national and global brands. After working in the field for several years, Marie started her own firm, Brew Agency, in 2010. From its onset, she had a clear purpose in mind – to build an inspiring work environment for family-centric people that would support flexibility, encourage mobility and ignite creativity. This semi-remote, work-from-home model was unheard of at that time.
Over the past decade, Marie and her team have learned that while there are undeniable pros that come with working remotely, it is apparent that humans require and crave collaboration and face-to-face, personal interaction. The Brewery is an extension of Marie’s original purpose – to create an environment where people can be inspired and do great things while keeping a work-life balance in check; and to ultimately inspire meaningful conversations that promote progress.
